The US government has announced it is doubling the reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to $50 million.

Maduro is accused by the US Justice Department of involvement in drug trafficking networks, specifically as the leader of the "Cártel de los Soles" (Cartel of the Suns), which allegedly smuggles tons of cocaine into the United States.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the increase in the reward via X. The previous reward was $25 million.

The US has not recognized Maduro's re-election since 2024 and has imposed sanctions and an oil embargo on Venezuela.

Relations between Caracas and Washington have remained strained since 2019, when the US disputed Maduro's re-election.
