US: Bill Filed for 5-Year Extension of Arms Embargo Lift to Cyprus

Senators Cory Booker and Jerry Moran have submitted a bill to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which provides for the extension of the lifting of the embargo on the sale of American weapons to the Republic of Cyprus from one to five years.
The bill amends specific restrictions and exceptions regarding the export of defense equipment and the conditions for providing defense assistance to Cyprus. Specifically, it amends Section 205 of the East Med Act of 2019 and Section 1250A of the NDAA of 2020, replacing the phrase 'one fiscal year' with 'five fiscal years'.
The Committee is expected to consider and vote on the bill today.
