Iran: Erfan Soltani's Execution Postponed

The execution of 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, who was sentenced to death for participating in protests in Iran, has been postponed. According to a family member, the execution will not take place today, but the death sentence remains in effect, raising concerns about his safety.
The Hengaw organization reported that Soltani was arrested on January 8, 2026, in connection with protests in the city of Fardis. The family was informed just four days later that his execution was scheduled.
Hengaw denounces the case as a blatant violation of international human rights law, emphasizing the lack of access to a lawyer and a fair trial. The organization appeals to international organizations to take action to suspend the execution and review the case.
The protests in Iran began on December 28, triggered by the fall in the value of the Iranian currency.
