Israel Delivers Iron Beam, First Laser Air Defense System

Israel has officially delivered its first high-energy laser interception system, the Iron Beam, to the IDF, transitioning laser air defense from experimental to operational reality.
The delivery ceremony took place at the headquarters of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in northern Israel. The Iron Beam was developed by the Research and Development Directorate of the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the country's defense industries.
Designed to intercept rockets, mortars, and drones at short ranges, the Iron Beam will be integrated into the Israeli Air Force alongside existing systems like Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow.
The system has proven its effectiveness in tests, successfully intercepting multiple types of aerial threats under realistic conditions. It combines a powerful laser source with advanced electro-optical tracking and adaptive optics, enabling precise engagements at a low cost.
Defense Minister Israel Katz called the delivery a "historic milestone," stating that the Iron Beam fundamentally changes the threat calculation.
