Israeli soldiers seized the "Handala," a ship belonging to the "Freedom Flotilla," on Saturday as it was heading to the Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid. The operation took place several miles off the coast.

According to a solidarity organization for Palestinians, soldiers boarded the ship and took control. On board were 19 activists and two Al Jazeera journalists. The activists were singing "Bella Ciao" during the operation.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the seizure, stating that the ship was attempting to break the naval blockade of Gaza. Israeli authorities assured that all those on board are safe and will be deported from the country.

The ship will be towed to the port of Ashdod. The Freedom Flotilla had attempted to send another ship, the Madleen, to Gaza a few weeks ago, but it was also seized. Greta Thunberg was also on board the Madleen.
