Kim Yo Jong: Propaganda Loudspeakers to Remain at Border

North Korea will keep its propaganda loudspeakers at the border with South Korea, according to a statement by Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un.
As reported by KCNA, Kim Yo Jong, who holds the position of deputy director in the Propaganda Department of North Korea, stressed that her country has no intention of improving relations with South Korea and that this position will be incorporated into the Constitution.
The statement comes in response to announcements about the removal of loudspeakers by Pyongyang, which Kim Yo Jong described as "baseless speculation."
Loudspeakers have historically been used for psychological warfare between the two countries, with South Korea broadcasting propaganda messages and K-pop, and North Korea responding with noises. Residents of border areas in South Korea have complained about the disturbance caused by the sounds.
Pyongyang considers Seoul's broadcasts a hostile act and has threatened to destroy the loudspeakers. South Korea had put the speakers back into operation in June 2024, after a six-year hiatus, due to North Korea's actions of sending balloons with waste.
