China Calls Trilateral Nuclear Disarmament Talks with US, Russia 'Unreasonable'

China has described the proposal to participate in trilateral talks with the US and Russia on nuclear disarmament as "unreasonable and unrealistic." Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to statements by Donald Trump, who mentioned discussing nuclear arms control with Vladimir Putin and expressed a desire for China's involvement.
Guo emphasized that the nuclear forces of China and the US are not at the same level and that the security strategies and nuclear doctrines of the two countries differ significantly. He reiterated that China follows a policy of no-first-use of nuclear weapons and a strategy of self-defense, without pursuing an arms race.
The spokesperson added that countries with the largest nuclear arsenals should take responsibility for nuclear disarmament. Donald Trump had stated that denuclearization is an important goal and expressed confidence that Russia and China would be willing to participate.
