China Commissions Fujian Aircraft Carrier – Message to the US

China has officially commissioned its newest and most advanced aircraft carrier, the 'Fujian', in a move seen as a show of strength and a message to the United States.

The Fujian is the third aircraft carrier in the Chinese fleet and features advanced aircraft launch systems (EMALS).

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the commissioning ceremony at the Sanya naval port.

With a displacement of 80,000 tons, the Fujian is close in size to the American Nimitz-class ships.

China has already begun construction of its next aircraft carrier, known as Type 004, which is expected to be nuclear-powered.
