US Ambassador Summoned to French Foreign Ministry Over Interference Claims

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot summoned the United States Ambassador to Paris, Charles Kushner, following comments regarding the death of activist Quentin Derancourt. Barrot denounced external interference in French affairs.
Student Quentin Derancourt was beaten to death by far-left activists, an incident that has shocked France. The Trump administration condemned the far-left's political violence and called for those responsible to be brought to justice.
The United States Embassy in Paris and the State Department's Counterterrorism Service warned that "violent radical leftism is on the rise." Jean-Noël Barrot stated that he refuses the exploitation of the tragedy for political reasons and that France does not accept lessons on violence.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also commented on Derancourt's death, prompting a reaction from President Emmanuel Macron.
Charles Kushner assumed his duties as Ambassador to France last summer. Due to Charles Kushner's absence, the chargé d'affaires of the American embassy went to the French Foreign Ministry in his place.
