In Colombia, 45 soldiers were released by a dissident faction of the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in a rebel-controlled area in the southwest of the country. An additional 27 soldiers were released on Sunday.

The soldiers had been captured by hundreds of residents following a Colombian army operation in the Micay canyon, a strategically important area for cocaine cartels and a stronghold of the Central General Staff (EMC) of the former FARC, led by Iván Mordisco.

Additionally, UN Secretary-General AntĂłnio Guterres appointed Miroslav JenÄŤa as the new UN Special Representative for Colombia.
