EU Responds to Trump's Tariff Threats Over Tech Companies

The European Commission has responded to Donald Trump's threats to impose tariffs on countries that discriminate against American technology companies.
Thomas Reynier, the European Commission's Press Officer for technological affairs, stated that allegations of censorship regarding the Digital Services Act (DSA) are unfounded. "A fundamental right in the EU is freedom of expression, it is a core value and it is fully integrated into the DSA," he emphasized.
Answering questions about Donald Trump's threats, Mr. Reynier mentioned that the DSA and the DMA (Digital Markets Act) constitute necessary legislation in the technology sectors, covering both social risks and competition.
Paola Pino, the European Commission's spokesperson, added that it is the sovereign right of the EU and its member states to regulate economic activities on their territory, as long as they comply with democratic values.
