Kubilius: Violent US Occupation of Greenland Will Mean the End of NATO

European Commissioner for Defence, Andrius Kubilius, stated that a violent occupation of Greenland by the US would mean the end of NATO. The statements followed threats from US President Donald Trump, who said that the US would occupy Greenland 'one way or another'.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that such an attack would mean the end of NATO and the post-World War II security order. Kubilius agreed with this assessment, stressing that it would also have negative consequences on relations between peoples.
Kubilius recalled that Article 42.7 of the Treaty on European Union obliges member states to assist Denmark in the event of military aggression.
