Kremlin Opposes European Security Guarantees for Ukraine

The Kremlin has expressed its opposition to European proposals for security guarantees for Ukraine, highlighting disagreements regarding the presence of NATO troops in the region.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Russia believes publicly discussing these guarantees does not help the situation. He also referred to a potential summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska, calling it constructive.

Peskov emphasized that security guarantees are one of the most important issues in talks between Russia and Ukraine, but there is disagreement on the form these guarantees should take. Russia wants to revive a 2022 proposal, while Kyiv rejects such a possibility.

The last direct talks between the two sides took place on July 23 in Istanbul.
