The Kremlin stated that it seeks a lasting peace in Ukraine, not a temporary ceasefire, effectively rejecting Kyiv's proposal for a Christmas truce.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that a ceasefire would allow Ukraine to regroup and prepare for the continuation of the war. "We want peace, we do not want a ceasefire that will give Ukraine a breather and time to prepare for the continuation of the war," Peskov said.

Peskov also clarified that there has been no telephone communication between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump after October 16, contradicting previous claims by Trump.

Furthermore, it was announced that Vladimir Putin will hold the annual review of Russia's performance on December 19.
