US Sanctions Rosneft and Lukoil Over Ukraine

The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Russian energy giants Rosneft and Lukoil, accusing Moscow of a lack of commitment to a peace process to end the war in Ukraine.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besent stated that the sanctions were imposed due to Russian President Vladimir Putin's refusal to end the war. According to Mr. Besent, these companies are funding the Kremlin's war machine.

Washington is prepared to take further action and urges its allies to adopt the sanctions. President Trump expressed hope that the sanctions would be short-lived and contribute to ending the war.
