Lebanon Accuses Israel of Glyphosate Spraying at Border

Beirut has accused Israel of spraying glyphosate on the Lebanese side of the border. The UN has expressed concerns about the long-term impact on agricultural land and the population.
In a joint statement, the Lebanese Ministries of Agriculture and Environment stated that some samples had a glyphosate concentration “20 to 30 times higher than the average” in the area.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun denounced the “flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and an environmental and health crime.”
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stated that it was informed by the Israeli army of a spraying operation of “a non-toxic chemical substance” near the border, adding that they were forced to cancel operations.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry announced its intention to appeal to the UN Security Council on the matter.
The Israeli army has not made an immediate comment.
