London: Respect for Sovereign Rights in the Eastern Mediterranean

The United Kingdom respects the sovereign right of Eastern Mediterranean countries to exploit their natural resources, stated British Under-Secretary of State for Europe, Stephen Doughty.

Responding to a letter from the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK regarding Turkey and the Cyprus issue, Doughty noted that London recognizes the strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean for energy security, emphasizing the importance of developing renewable sources.

Britain supports internationally recognized borders in the region and encourages the resolution of disputes in accordance with international law. The British official maintained that Ankara is a 'critical pillar' of NATO's collective defense.

London remains committed to the stability of the region and is working with all its partners to strengthen peace and security.
