Mexico Condemns Citizen's Death in ICE Detention Center in the US

The Mexican government has condemned the death of a Mexican citizen in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and demanded an investigation into "serious omissions" at the detention center. According to the Foreign Ministry, the number of Mexicans who have died in ICE custody or in anti-immigration raids during Donald Trump's second term has reached 14.
The most recent death occurred in California. The man was being held at a center in Adelanto and was transferred to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Foreign Ministry called on U.S. authorities to ensure that "such deplorable cases are not repeated" and requested an "immediate inspection of the Adelanto center, due to serious omissions and inadequacies in the provision of medical care." Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum demanded that the human rights of migrants be respected.
In 2025, at least 30 people died in ICE custody, a record number since 2004.
