Scholz: War in Ukraine Will End Due to Exhaustion
Share on:

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes the war in Ukraine will end due to the exhaustion of the parties involved, either militarily or economically.

In an interview with Rheinpfalz newspaper, Mr. Merz stated that he considers a termination through negotiations unlikely. "In my estimation, this war will end when one of the two sides is exhausted, either militarily or economically," he said.

Chancellor Merz argued that "logic and humanitarian arguments will not convince Putin." Consequently, European efforts must aim to make the Russian state unable to continue the war.

Mr. Merz believes that the "ruling clique" of Russia cannot survive without war and must keep the war machine running.

"Right now we see this country in a state of deep barbarity. This will not change in the foreseeable future and is something we must realize and face," the German Chancellor concluded.
