US Treasury Secretary Scott Besed stated that President Trump believes enhanced US security depends on incorporating Greenland. Besed argued that Europe is "too weak" to ensure its own security.

Speaking on NBC News' Meet the Press, Besed downplayed EU threats to cancel the trade agreement with the US. He also recalled the imposition of 10% tariffs on products from eight European countries from February 1, with a possible increase to 25% in June if there is no agreement on the "purchase of Greenland."

Besed justified the US claim to Greenland, citing geopolitical competition in the Arctic and plans to develop the "Golden Dome" missile shield.

Answering questions about the possible dissolution of NATO, Besed called the dilemma "false," expressing confidence that European leaders will accept the need for the American security umbrella.
