NATO: Iranian Missile Targeted Turkey – Claims About Cyprus

NATO has condemned the launch of a missile by Iran, stating that Turkey was the target. NATO spokesperson Alison Hart emphasized solidarity with Turkey, while a Turkish official claimed the missile was heading towards Cyprus.
According to NATO, the missile was shot down while over Iraq and Syria. "We condemn Iran's attack on Turkey... as Iran continues its indiscriminate attacks throughout the region," said Alison Hart.
Conversely, a Turkish official, speaking anonymously to AFP, claimed that the missile deviated from its course and was initially aimed at a "Greek Cypriot" base in Cyprus. However, they provided no evidence for their claim.
Debris from the missile fell in Hatay province in southern Turkey, causing no injuries. Turkey had announced that NATO defense systems intercepted the missile before it entered Turkish airspace. A Patriot missile system has been stationed in the Adana region since 2016.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that Turkey reserves the right to respond to any hostile action and called on all parties to avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
