Niger: Prefect and Family Murdered by Jihadists

The prefect of Torodi in Niger and his family have been murdered in an attack allegedly carried out by jihadists. The tragic incident highlights the escalation of violence in the Sahel region.

Prefect Saibou Mali, his wife, and their children were found dead at their home in Torodi, approximately 60 kilometers southwest of the capital Niamey. The attack took place on the night of Sunday to Monday.

Niger is facing increasing attacks from jihadist organizations, particularly in the west of the country. Following the coup, the military junta expelled French and American forces involved in counter-terrorism operations.

The Sahel region has become the epicenter of jihadist violence in Africa, with thousands of deaths in recent years.
