Nicaragua: Investigation Against Close Associate of Daniel Ortega

Authorities in Nicaragua have announced an investigation into Bayardo Arce, a close associate of President Daniel Ortega and a historical leader of the Sandinistas.

Arce, a long-time ally and economic advisor to Ortega, is reportedly under house arrest. The investigation concerns possible irregularities in transactions involving resources and companies, which may have harmed national assets.

According to the prosecutor's office, Arce did not respond to three summonses to testify. A close associate, Ricardo Bonilla, has been arrested and is being interrogated.

The newspaper El País reported that Ortega's wife, Rosario Murillo, allegedly ordered the investigation, considering the historical Sandinista figures as obstacles to her power.
