UN Demands Immediate Halt to Israeli Plan for Gaza

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, in a statement today, stressed that the Israeli plan for full military control of the occupied Gaza Strip must stop immediately.

The plan, approved by the Israeli cabinet, "contravenes the decision of the International Court of Justice," according to Türk.

The High Commissioner expressed fears of mass displacements, killings, and crimes, while accusing the Israeli authorities of pro-Palestinian tendencies.

Türk called on the Israeli government to allow unhindered access for humanitarian aid to Gaza and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of hostages abducted by Hamas, as well as Palestinians arbitrarily detained by Israel.
