UN Urges Israel: No Settlement to Divide West Bank

The UN has called on Israel not to proceed with the construction of a settlement that would bisect the West Bank and separate it from East Jerusalem.

UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric stated that such a project would end the prospects for a two-state solution.

The plan, known as E1, has been frozen since 2012 due to international reactions. According to Bezalel Smotrich, Israel's Minister of Finance, work on the plan will commence.

The United States emphasized that a stable West Bank is important for peace in the region. A US State Department spokesman stated that the US remains focused on ending the war in Gaza.
