UN Warns of Institutional Decay in Libya – Greece's Position

The UN warns of institutional decay and economic deterioration in Libya. The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, expressed concern about the division of the judicial system, stressing that parallel decisions threaten the unity of the state.
In the economic field, Ms. Tetteh described a deteriorating picture with currency devaluation, inflation, and increased poverty, with 30% of Libyans living in poverty. She also noted the strengthening of transnational criminal networks and human rights violations against migrants.
The Permanent Representative of Greece, Ambassador Ag. Balta, expressed full support for H. Tetteh and the UN political roadmap, stressing that economic stability is inextricably linked to political stabilization. Ms. Balta supported Libya's request for an audit of the assets of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) and called for the dismantling of criminal trafficking networks.
