Hungary: Opposition Accuses Russia of Interference

Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar has accused Russia of interfering in Hungary's domestic politics. The accusations relate to a statement by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), which stated that Magyar is loyal to the 'elites promoting globalization' and claimed that the European Commission is considering 'regime change in Budapest'.
In an open letter to the Russian ambassador to Hungary, Magyar requested assurances that Russia would avoid actions that could be seen as interference in Hungary's internal politics, such as disinformation campaigns and cyberattacks. The Russian ambassador replied that the accusations are unfounded and that Moscow does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, has been criticized by European leaders for his relations with Moscow and his opposition to sending military aid to Ukraine. Magyar argues that the SVR's announcement shows an attempt to influence Hungarian voters ahead of the elections.
