Ukraine: How Close Are We to the End of the War?

Russia, the United States, and Ukraine converge on the assessment that the end of the war in Ukraine is approaching, almost four years after the Russian invasion. However, there are still 'thorns' blocking an agreement.

According to the BBC, the two most complex points in the American 20-point plan concern territorial claims in the Donbas and the management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Vladimir Putin insists on full control of the Donbas, while Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected a complete withdrawal, proposing a demilitarized zone under international supervision.

Ukraine is seeking security guarantees from the US and Europe, as well as financial support for reconstruction, with damages estimated at around $800 billion. Zelenskyy insists on a referendum for any agreement in the Donbas, which the Kremlin rejects.

Despite statements about progress, a lack of trust remains deep, making the end of the war uncertain.
