Kyiv has proposed to Moscow, through American mediators, a cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure in Ukraine and Russia, as announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"If Russia is ready to stop strikes on our energy sector, we will be ready to do the same. And this proposal from us – which was transmitted by the Americans – has been communicated to the Russian side," Zelenskyy said in a video address.

Zelenskyy also mentioned that Kyiv continues contacts with American negotiators regarding security guarantees, which he considers a "key" to achieving lasting peace.

Last week, Zelenskyy had advocated for a ceasefire for Easter, but after a barrage of Russian attacks, he said that Moscow chose to respond with a barrage of Shahed (Iranian-made drones).

"We have repeatedly proposed to the Russians a ceasefire at least for Easter, a special time of year," he said. "But for them, all seasons are the same. They have neither sacred nor holy," Zelenskyy commented.
