Papastavrou: EU and US Must Address Alternative Routes of Russian Gas

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, emphasized the need for the EU and the US to effectively address alternative routes of Russian natural gas through Turkey. The statement was made during an event in Washington on EU-US energy cooperation.
Mr. Papastavrou stated that energy is a pillar of security and a fundamental element of the strategic convergence between Europe and the United States. He pointed out that European LNG imports from the US account for almost 60%.
He also referred to the Vertical Corridor, stressing that it is more than just natural gas, constituting an artery of peace and prosperity. He emphasized the need to ensure that Russian gas does not re-enter Europe through alternative routes, such as Turkey.
The event was also attended by the Energy Ministers of Lithuania and Poland, as well as the Director-General for Energy of the European Commission.
