The Patriarchate of Jerusalem has announced the removal of Archbishop Damian from the throne of Saint Catherine's Monastery in Sinai. The decision was made unanimously by the Synod, following a long period of tensions with the Sinai Brotherhood.

According to the announcement, Archbishop Damian had been summoned to answer allegations, but he did not attend, as he resides in Athens. The Synod took into account the decision of the Sinai Brotherhood to remove him, as well as a letter from the hierarch indicating his intention to resign.

From September 12, Damian will hold the title of "Former Archbishop of Sinai, Pharan and Raitho." The Patriarchate expressed wishes to the departing archbishop and called on the Sinai Brotherhood to proceed with the election of a new primate.

The announcement emphasizes that the Patriarchate cares for the peace and unity of the Church, even in times of disruption of the ecclesiastical order.
