Peru: New President Impeached by Congress, Seven Since 2016

The Congress of Peru has impeached interim President José Herí, confirming the political instability in the country. Since 2016, seven heads of state have served as president, with four being impeached and two resigning.
Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018) resigned due to the Odebrecht scandal. Martín Vizcarra (2018-2020) was impeached by parliament. Manuel Merino resigned after five days. Francisco Sagasti (2020-2021) was the exception, completing his transitional term.
Pedro Castillo (2021-2022) was impeached after attempting to dissolve Congress. Dina Boluarte (2022-2025) succeeded him and was also impeached. José Herí, the latest impeached president, had taken over as interim president.
The political instability is due to the power of parliament and the lack of political consensus.
