Poland Proposes NATO Impose No-Fly Zone in Ukraine Regions

Poland's Foreign Minister, Radosław Sikorski, has proposed that NATO consider imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine. The proposal follows an incident involving Russian drones entering Polish airspace.
Sikorski emphasized that such a zone cannot be decided unilaterally by Poland but only in cooperation with NATO allies and the EU. He explained that intercepting drones before they enter national airspace would offer greater protection to citizens.
The discussion about a no-fly zone was raised again in 2022 after the start of the Russian invasion but was rejected by NATO due to fears of direct confrontation with Russia. The current proposal appears to focus on countering Russian drones near Ukraine's borders with NATO states.
According to the Polish Ministry of Interior, 16 drones were detected in Poland last week and intercepted by Polish, Dutch, and allied fighter jets.
Moscow claimed that the drones targeted only Ukrainian territory and that no targets on Polish soil were planned for destruction.
