Polish President Proposes Cutting Benefits for Ukrainians

The President of Poland has advocated for limiting the access of Ukrainians to child benefits and healthcare. He also proposed a legal ban on the glorification of Ukrainian nationalist leader Stepan Bandera.

Official figures indicate that approximately 1.5 million Ukrainian citizens reside in Poland. President Karol Nawrocki stated that family benefits should only be granted to those working in Poland, as should healthcare.

Ukrainian refugees are currently entitled to a monthly family allowance of 800 złoty per child if they attend Polish schools. Nawrocki proposed equating the symbol of Bandera in the penal code with symbols of Nazism and communism.

The Polish president's decision to veto the law extending support to Ukraine means that from October 1, Warsaw will not be able to continue paying for Ukraine's Starlink subscription.
