Russian President Vladimir Putin is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, taking place in the city of Tianjin.

The summit will be attended by approximately 20 heads of state and government, including the presidents of China, Iran, and Turkey, as well as the Prime Minister of India.

The summit, which begins today and concludes tomorrow, aims to present an alternative model of governance. Some leaders, such as Iranian Massoud Pezeshkian and President Putin, have been invited to stay in China until Wednesday to attend Beijing's military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

This year's summit is described as the largest since the organization's founding, taking place amidst multiple crises, including the trade dispute between the United States and China and India, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.
