Record Conflicts in 2025: Greece's Position in the Peace Index

According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, 2025 marks a record number of conflicts since World War II, with 59 international conflicts. September 21st, the International Day of Peace, finds the world facing increasing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty.
In its 19th report, the Institute for Economics and Peace assesses peace in 163 states and territories, covering 99.7% of the world's population through the Global Peace Index (GPI).
Key Findings:
- Increased number of countries in conflicts.
- Increase in the degree of militarization.
- Decrease in the successful resolution of conflicts.
In the Global Peace Index, Iceland has held the first position since 2008. Greece is in 45th place, losing three places compared to 2024.
The least peaceful countries are Russia and Ukraine, while the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is ranked as the least peaceful globally.
The report highlights the historic decline in global peacefulness, the increase in deaths from conflicts, and geopolitical tensions.
