Rutte: The US Fully Supports NATO and Europe

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed his conviction that the US fully supports NATO and will remain in the Alliance and alongside Europe. Rutte stressed that it is not necessary for the European Union to become fully independent in defense matters.

Commenting on a statement by Manfred Weber regarding the need to expand the EU into a 'European NATO,' Rutte noted that the US expects Europe to spend more on defense, but in parallel with them.

Rutte assured that the US fully supports NATO and referred to the decisions of the Hague summit, where allies pledged defense spending of 5% of their GDP by 2035, crediting the decision to the American President.

Manfred Weber supports strengthening the defense autonomy of the European Union and reiterated his position even for the establishment of a European army.
