Pakistan is taking on the role of mediator between the US and Iran, with army chief Asim Munir playing a central role, according to Sky News.

General Munir has developed a close relationship with Donald Trump, who calls him his 'favorite general.' Pakistan has also joined Trump's 'Peace Council' and has entered into an agreement to use cryptocurrencies linked to the Trump family.

Pakistan maintains contacts with both Washington and Tehran and is considered Iran's least hostile neighbor, making it a credible mediator. The Pakistani embassy in Washington hosts the Tehran mission since 1979 and is home to the world's second largest Shia population.

Pakistan has incentives to push for an end to the war, as it faces disruptions in fuel supplies amid the conflict with the Afghan Taliban.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister has held over 30 talks with counterparts in the Middle East.
