Starmer Considers Recognizing Palestinian State: Following Macron's Lead?

Keir Starmer is seriously considering recognizing a Palestinian state, following France's example. If the United Kingdom takes this step, it would be the second member of the Group of 7 (G7) to do so.
The Starmer government is reportedly re-evaluating its position due to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and pressure from MPs and ministers. Labour MPs have called on Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy to recognize Palestine.
Even US President Donald Trump has reportedly given Starmer leeway to recognize the Palestinian state, stating that his priority is providing aid to Gaza. Starmer has presented a European and British plan to achieve lasting peace in Gaza, which has been discussed with Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Starmer has pledged to uphold international law in relations with Israel, imposing sanctions on far-right members of the Israeli government and suspending arms shipments to Israel.
