Former Mali PM Moussa Mara Imprisoned

Former Prime Minister of Mali, Moussa Mara, has been detained on charges of "undermining the credibility of the state and opposing legitimate authority." This decision follows a social media post expressing solidarity with political prisoners.

Mara, who served as Prime Minister from April 2014 to January 2015, faces trial on September 29. The post on platform X on July 4, in which he promised justice for the prisoners he visited, triggered the authorities' reaction.

Mara's lawyers condemned the procedure. Mali has been ruled by the military since 2020 and 2021, who have taken measures against the press and dissidents.
