Iran Attack at UN: US and Israel Invoke Self-Defense

The US and Israel are seeking international legitimization for their attack on Iran, which took place on February 28. They have submitted letters to the UN, invoking Article 51 of the UN Charter for legitimate self-defense.
In the letters, the two countries state that the operation was necessary due to the threat posed by Iran's policy to the existence of Israel and to regional stability. The letters were submitted on March 10.
The American letter emphasizes that the US launched military operations "to defend the American people from attacks and ongoing threats from the Islamic Republic of Iran, in cooperation with our ally, Israel."
In the Israeli letter, Foreign Minister G. Saar points out that "for decades, the Iranian regime and its leaders have openly stated that their goal is the annihilation of the State of Israel."
Israel warns that it will continue to take all necessary measures to defend itself, in accordance with international law.
