EU and Middle East Leaders Discuss Security and Energy in Cyprus Summit

Leaders from the EU and Middle Eastern countries convened in Nicosia to address security, energy, and migration issues. The summit, hosted by the Cypriot Presidency, highlighted the need for a common European defense and crisis management.
Discussions focused on Article 42.7 of the EU Treaty regarding mutual assistance in case of attack, as well as strengthening the European defense industry. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized the need for specific EU response tools.
French President Emmanuel Macron's visit underscored enhanced cooperation between France and Cyprus, with agreements on joint military exercises and energy collaboration. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed for continued military aid to Ukraine.
A four-way meeting on migration, involving Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and Malta, emphasized the need for effective returns and European solidarity. The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, also participated in the summit.
