Lavrov Holds Calls with Fidan and Szijjártó After Putin-Trump Meeting

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held telephone conversations with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, and Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, following the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.
The discussions focused on the results of the Russia-US summit, which did not result in an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. Trump had urged Kyiv to reach an agreement with Moscow.
The telephone conversation between Lavrov and Fidan took place at the initiative of Turkey. Turkey has maintained open diplomatic channels with both sides since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Szijjártó stated that Hungary hopes for a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of peace and security in Central Europe. Hungary maintains close ties with Russia and opposes certain EU sanctions.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said the world is a safer place after the Putin-Trump meeting.
