Xi and Trump Discuss Taiwan and Ukraine in Phone Call

Chinese President Xi Jinping and former US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Monday, according to Xinhua news agency. The discussion focused on Taiwan and the crisis in Ukraine.

Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of the Taiwan issue for China, stressing that its return is an important element of the post-war international order. Trump, for his part, acknowledged the importance of Taiwan to Beijing.

Regarding Ukraine, Xi expressed hope for a fair and lasting peace agreement, while both leaders expressed optimism for resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

In addition, Xi Jinping referred to the successful meeting the two leaders had in Busan, South Korea, which he said gave new impetus to China-US relations. Trump called Xi Jinping a "great leader" and agreed with his views on bilateral relations.
