Tianjin's 'Worrying' Message for the US
Share on:

The meeting between the leaders of India and China, Modi and Xi Jinping, in Tianjin, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, has raised concerns in the US. The two countries announced measures to restore their relations, including the launch of direct flights and land trade.

Although India-China relations are characterized by fluctuations, with periods of conflict due to their difference over the LAC, they maintain long-standing economic agreements. Modi's visit to China, his first in seven years, marks a significant step in restoring relations.

The message to the US is that there are alternative options and emerging alliances in response to tariffs and Donald Trump's policies. The fear in the US is that such 'episodes' will lead to economic isolation and disconnection from global supply chains.

Despite the differences between Beijing and New Delhi, the two countries can move forward with trade cooperation through the SCO, BRICS, or new formations, even with Europe. This is the 'worrying' message for the White House from Tianjin.
