The 'Hora' Research Vessel and Andreas Papandreou's Order to Sink It

In 1976, the Turkish research vessel 'Hora' violated the Greek continental shelf, leading to a major crisis between Greece and Turkey. The then Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou reportedly gave the order to 'sink the Hora'.
This move occurred during a period of increasing tension due to oil exploration in the Aegean Sea. Turkey challenged Greek territorial waters twice within ten years, first with the 'Hora' in 1976 and then with the 'Sismic' in 1987.
