Turkey: Court Ruling on Republican People's Party Leadership

A court hearing is scheduled today in Turkey regarding the annulment of the 38th Congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP), focusing on the potential removal of Özgür Özel and his replacement by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
The lawsuit seeking the annulment of the congress was filed at the request of the former Mayor of Antakya, Lütfü Savaş, and others, challenging the legitimacy of Özel's election.
In the event of annulment, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu would return to the leadership, while Özel and the central committee would lose their positions. The CHP leadership has called on Kılıçdaroğlu not to accept such a decision.
Özgür Özel stated that he would not hand over the party to an unelected leader. The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, expressed his opposition to the annulment, while the Mayor of Ankara, Mansur Yavaş, warned of a possible division of the party.
The CHP is developing a strategy against the court decision, with a possible plan to prevent Kılıçdaroğlu from entering the headquarters. In case of annulment, an appeal will be filed and a process for a new congress will begin.
