The Turkish Foreign Ministry has rejected the US State Department's 2024 Human Rights Report, dismissing the claims included within it as "baseless." In a statement, the ministry asserted that Turkey "successfully combats all forms and manifestations of terrorism within the framework of the rule of law."

Ankara expressed regret over the inclusion of "baseless and unfounded claims" linked to the FETÖ terrorist organization, referring to the network of Fethullah Gulen. Regarding military operations in northern Syria, the ministry stated that they are conducted based on the right to self-defense and with "utmost care for the civilian population."

Furthermore, Turkey rejected accusations concerning the rights of refugees and migrants, emphasizing that it is "an exemplary state with a comprehensive and sustainable migration management policy."

The State Department's report characterized 2024 as a "lost year" for press freedom in Turkey, highlighting pressure and censorship against journalists, as well as the influence of the executive branch on the judiciary. The report also cited instances of arbitrary arrests, torture, and violations of refugee rights.
