Turkey: Military Presence in Libya Extended

The Turkish Grand National Assembly has approved the extension of the Turkish military presence in Libya for an additional two years. This decision means that Turkish troops will remain in Libya until early 2028.
The Turkish government maintains that the military mission is based on agreements with the internationally recognized government in Tripoli and serves Turkish interests in the Eastern Mediterranean. Fuat Oktay, an Ankara MP and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, stated that the "Blue Homeland" is a priority for the government and that Turkey supports the Libyan people.
From the opposition's side, Namık Tan from the Republican People's Party (CHP) stated that his party would support the proposal "conditionally," based on the safety of soldiers and peace, but without consenting to an "adventurous foreign policy." Erkan Akçay of the MHP argued that Turkey is in Libya to establish peace and stability, linking the presence to Turkey's rights in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Opposition parties criticized the lack of transparency, but several of them voted in favor of the proposal, supporting the armed forces.
