Turkish Push to Update Customs Union with EU

Turkish business leaders are calling for an update to the customs union between Turkey and the European Union, at a critical time for the EU.
In an open letter to the heads of European institutions – António Costa, Ursula von der Leyen, and Roberta Metsola – 26 Turkish-European business associations emphasize Turkey's importance to the European economy and competitiveness.
The business leaders argue that Turkey can be an integral part of the new architecture of economic security and defense of the EU. They also call for a differentiation of the accession negotiation process, considering the current methodology counterproductive.
This initiative takes place amidst international circumstances and pressures on the EU, with the aim of strengthening dialogue and reviving Turkey's accession process.
It is worth noting that the letter is signed by business associations representing the EU member states, with the exception of Cyprus.
